Ways to Support a Local Candidate's Campaign
Join us and spread the word to your community
Is there a candidate running for office in your city, district, or town that you want to support beyond your vote on election day? Here are some simple ways you can help support a local candidate’s campaign for office and encourage civic engagement in your community.
Spread the word
- Social media is a powerful tool to reach your local community. Share information about upcoming elections (including state-specific dates like cutoff dates for voter registration, early voting days, and other important dates), campaign events, and what your candidate is up to.
- Follow your candidates, representatives, and local organizations to stay up to date on events and important dates.
- Talk to family and friends. What do they think about the issues and candidates?
Volunteer
- You can also volunteer for your local representatives by making fundraising calls or canvasing for their campaigns.
- A great place to start is checking your candidate’s website and see if they have any volunteer opportunities listed.

Work
- Many political campaigns are searching for talented, driven individuals to fill paid positions. There are tens of thousands of local positions across the country that need help to run their campaigns.
- Beyond local candidates, there are also ballot initiatives that require campaigns as well. Learn more about how to get a cause on the ballot here.
- Harvard has a helpful guide with resources for students, post-graduate opportunities, and information on how to choose a candidate and campaign.
Attend campaign events and town halls
- Show your support in person by attending a campaign event near you. Hear directly from your candidate, engage with fellow civically minded community members, and invite family and friends to join. Campaign forums are a great way to learn more about the issues and ask your own questions.
Donate
- Political campaigns are expensive. Donate to your candidate to help keep their campaign going. The best place to find where to donate is their official campaign website.
