Disability Pride Month: Ways to Celebrate and Take Action
Join us and spread the word to your community
- July serves as a time to celebrate the accomplishments and highlight the voices of disabled people, as well as raise awareness about ableism and other issues facing the disabled community. The month also serves to commemorate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which passed in July 1990. While not a federally recognized designation, Disability Pride Month is still celebrated across the nation.
- According to the CDC, around 61 million adults, or one in four people in the U.S., have some form of disability that impacts their life. Disability encompasses a vast spectrum of conditions impacting physical and mental ability, can be temporary or permanent, and can impact anyone at any point in their lives.
